Maternity – A moment in tummy, a lifetime in heart

“Mummy, doesn’t your tummy hurt or don’t you feel tired?” asked a concerned child fondly touching his mother’s tummy. I paused for a moment eager to hear the mother’s response. “No dear, in fact I feel happy and free from any sort of pain. Aren’t we all eagerly awaiting to welcome our baby into this world and into our hearts?”. The child’s smile confirmed that he was more than happy with his mother’s reasoning.

A moment in tummy and a lifetime in heart is probably the most appropriate way to define maternity or motherhood. Nine months may seem like a long period for some but for the mother-to-be, it’s like an incubation time wherein they develop an eternal bond with their child.

“Congratulations you are going to be a mother”. I may have uttered this sentence umpteen number of times and most of the times, the joy and elation expressed by women is so infectious that it lights up the entire room. Just the mere thought of a life growing within is adequate enough to bring about a metamorphosis in you. Besides the physiological changes, pregnant women experience a gush of emotions towards their child. A young mother may suddenly feel all the more mature and responsible towards her unborn child. Motherly instincts do kick in and there is a surge of feelings ranging from joy to fear and a sense of anticipation. “Will I be a good mother? Can I take up such a huge responsibility?”, It’s but natural that a would-be-mother goes on a roller coaster ride of emotions during her pregnancy. My advice is quite simple- stay positive, eat healthy, exercise and be happy. You have nestled the baby in your tummy for nine months- This may seem like a mere moment considering the fact that you have created a special place for your kid in your heart for a lifetime!
