Termination of Pregnancy

Women seek abortions for many different reasons, and these can include: failed contraception, abnormal and social reasons like pregnancies resulting due to rape.

It is unsafe to perform terminations in advanced pregnancies.

After Termination

  • Your period should probably resume within four to six weeks
  • After the operation, do not use tampons for the first menstrual period.
  • Abstain from sexual intercourse while you still have spotting (bleeding) after the procedure (this should disappear after a few days)
  • After early pregnancy termination, resting for a day or two should suffice.
  • Consult your doctor immediately if you have heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain or a foul smelling vaginal discharge.

Pregnancy termination is an emotional issue. Suppressed guilt, shame and regret can be traumatic and damaging and can potentially affect current and future relationships if they are not dealt with.
